This past summer medical giant Cedars-Sinai Health System announced it is expanding to the tech hotbed of Playa Vista as well nearby Marina del Rey.
Cedars-Sinai officials said they plan to open a medical office featuring primary-care doctors and specialists in Playa Vista’s central retail district in late 2016.
The 32,000-square-foot office will be at the Runway in Playa Vista. This new location will be staffed by about 24 physicians, and it will be able to treat an estimated 500 patients per day. The Playa Vista location will support a wide range of services including internal medicine, urgent care, dermatology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
Also this summer Cedars-Sinai Health System announced it has acquired the 145-bed Marina Del Rey Hospital and neighboring office building.
Marina Del Rey Hospital will operate as an affiliate of Cedars-Sinai and continue to provide its existing services, including a 24-hour emergency room. All 660 hospital employees will remain in place, according to Cedars-Sinai.
Both of these deals fit in with Cedars-Sinai’s ongoing efforts to expand and make care more convenient to patients in the community. It’s also part of a larger consolidation trend among U.S. hospitals and, more recently, big health insurers.
